Summer Teacher’s Institute: The Art and Science of Being Human

This year we will be exploring art history, social science, brain science and contemporary art through a variety of media and art history: The Institute will enrich your art and support lesson planning for invigorating your skills and inspiring your students. The Summer Institute was developed to highlight the deep connections between STEM education and art education by embracing STEAM! This year’s Institute will include brain science and how we truly see the world, we will be learning about artists, their media and practice, discovering and exploring new media through your own artmaking (drawing, printmaking, sculpture, bookmaking and more!), we will visit a working artist’s studio and enjoy some camaraderie in the beautiful setting of Maryhill Museum of Art and the Columbia River Gorge.

We will work with you to help you find a room-share arrangement; or you can book a lovely campsite at Maryhill State Park or stay in one of the many Bed and Breakfast accommodations in the area. The Summer Institute is not only inspiring for your art and teaching practice but is also good for your soul! Clock hours and Professional hours are available.

Registration is $200 for members of Maryhill Museum of Art and $216 for non-members. We do have a generous scholarship offered on a first-asked basis. We must have 12 registrants for this class to take place.
