Juror’s Workshop with Suzy Baker

Join Pacific Northwest Plein Air in the Columbia River Gorge 2025 Juror Suzy Baker for a one-day plein air painting workshop at Maryhill Museum of Art. Baker, with support from fellow award-winning painter and instructor Aimee Erickson, will teach painters of all abilities about composition. Registrants should bring their own materials; see the Materials List for details.

Workshop Theme: Compositional Strategies for Painting Success

A successful painting begins long before the first brushstroke. Regardless of your chosen medium or whether you paint en plein air or in the studio, this workshop will provide you with the vision and tools needed to compose and design compelling paintings. A morning of inspiring instruction, followed by hands-on application in the field, will help you move forward artistically with greater confidence.

About Suzy Baker

Suzie Baker has gained national acclaim, earning a stellar reputation for her versatility as both a plein-air landscape artist as well as a studio painter of still lifes, figurative works, and portraits. Her award-winning paintings have been featured in such publications as Plein Air Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, Western Art and Architecture, and Southwest Art. Also known as a generous and uplifting teacher, Suzie teaches workshops at home and abroad and through instructional videos.

Baker also believes in giving back to the community of artists, and she is proud to serve as a Board Member with the Oil Painters of America since 2014, including serving as President from 2020-2022.

About Aimee Erickson

Known for an engaging style and versatility in subject matter, Aimee Erickson is an internationally renowned oil painter and instructor. Her first book, Plein Air Techniques for Artists: Principles and Methods for Painting in Natural Light, was released in 2023 to broad acclaim. Erickson is a standout at plein air painting competitions nationwide and has won too many top awards to list. She has exhibited with international plein-air groups in China, Turkmenistan, and Russia, is an inaugural member of Charlie Hunter’s En Train Air expedition, and in 1997 painted the official portrait of governor of Oregon Barbara Roberts. Her work has been featured in print media Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, Southwest Art MagazineAmerican Art Collector, and Plein Air Magazine, and on OutdoorPainter.com.
