Pour a glass of wine (or another favorite beverage) and Join Jenée J. Baugher, author of The Ekphrastic Writer, as she explores the world of ekphrasis…using art as a prompt to engage and inform writing. During this interactive hour, she will discuss her new book and read some of her original ekphrastic poetry. Questions and challenges are welcome!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Janée J. Baugher is the author of The Ekphrastic Writer: Creating Art-Influenced Poetry, Fiction and Nonfiction—the only guidebook of its kind, and two ekphrastic poetry collections, Coördinates of Yes and The Body’s Physics. Her poetry, fiction, and nonfiction have been published in over 100 journals such as Tin House, The Southern Review, The American Journal of Poetry, Nimrod International Journal of Prose and PoetryNano Fiction, and The Writer’s Chronicle, and she’s read at the Library of Congress. She holds degrees from Boston University and Eastern Washington University and has been awarded artist residencies in Pennsylvania, Alaska, Idaho, Vermont, California, Washington, and Wisconsin. As an interdisciplinary artist, she seeks innovative ways to engage with the world; she regularly collaborates with choreographers, dancers, composers, and visual artists, and her poetry has been adapted for the stage and set to music at venues such as University of Cincinnati–Conservatory of Music, Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, Dance Now! Ensemble in Florida, Otterbein University, and University of North Carolina-Pembroke. Baugher teaches in Seattle and is currently a poetry reader for the St. Louis literary journal Boulevard.
