Maryhill Arts Festival Offers Art, Music, and More
Grounds of Maryhill Museum of Art are the Setting for August 17 & 18 Free Arts Festival
(Goldendale, Wash., July 30, 2013) –Maryhill Museum of Art’s sculpture garden is the idyllic setting for the Maryhill Arts Festival, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 18, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 17. Admission to the festival is FREE.
The festival features artists displaying and selling art in a variety of media, including painting, jewelry, woodworking, pottery, glass, recycled materials and more. Live music, food vendors, and hands-on art activities for families are also on tap.
The younger set can explore their creativity under the Maryhill Art Tent, which offers free, drop-in art activities from 1 to 4 p.m. daily.Music on Saturday, August 17 will include jazz from Mike Stillman & Friends as well as The Dalles based guitarist Jeff Carrell. On Sunday, August 18, , the acoustic duo of Chad & Megan Moody and their refreshing take on folk music, and Northwest folksinger Laddie Ray Melvin take to the stage.
This year the Maryhill Arts Festival also coincides with the museum’s Free Counties Weekend for residents of the Columbia River Gorge. Residents of Hood River, Jefferson, Wasco, Sherman, and Gillam counties in Oregon and residents of Benton, Franklin, Klickitat, Skamania, Walla Walla, and Columbia counties in Washington need only show their ID (with current address) to receive free admission to the museum during the weekend of August 17 & 18, 2013.

Family Fun: Under the Big Tent | 1 to 4 p.m. daily
Explore your creativity at the Maryhill Art Tent with free drop-in art activities open to all ages. On Family Fun days youth 18 and under are admitted to the museum free all day with one paid adult museum admission.

The Arts Festival is also a great time to enjoy Maryhill’s grounds as a whole, including the museum’s stunning new Mary and Bruce Stevenson Wing. Visitors also can peruse the museum’s growing permanent collection of outdoor sculpture. Inside the museum, visitors will find the permanent collections as well as the special exhibition Eanger Irving Couse on the Columbia River,featuring approximately 20 original paintings and related artifacts and archival material from E. Irving Couse, who painted local Indian subjects and landscapes in Klickitat County during the late 1800s.
The museum proper will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily during the Arts Festival. Permanent exhibits include a large collection of works by Rodin, European and American paintings, objects d’art from the palaces of the Queen of Romania, Orthodox icons, unique chess sets, the renowned Théâtre de la Mode as well as an extensive Native American collection.
